Chile 2019!

Thank you for taking the time to view this page. My name is Eliza Roberts, and I am currently a sophomore at Duxbury High School. I am thrilled to inform you that I plan on studying abroad next year in Chile! I am so very thankful for this opportunity that has come about, and I appreciate any and all support from all of the kind souls I have been blessed to meet.

I am asking kindly for donations to my trip abroad. I will be incredibly grateful for all donations, even if it is just a penny from the tip jar.
Before you decide whether or not you would like to donate, I invite you to read on, and look into the reasons I have decided to embark on this amazing journey.

Here are some questions you may ask:

  • Why do you want to go abroad?
Now, my answer to this would be, "Why not?" But, if that isn't enough, I will add that I want to go abroad for not only the experience, but also all of the new information that I will learn when studying abroad. Not only will I attend school while abroad, but the entire trip will be a learning experience for me.
  • What do you expect to gain from the experience?
I will get to experience seeing how families in different countries function, and I will have the opportunity to live with a Chilean family for 160 days. I will learn about different cultures, and I will learn about history that I had never known before. After I return from my trip, I hope to gain insight on communities, leadership skills, and well being. The knowledge I receive will not go to waste, and I hope to help others in as many ways as possible when I return.
  • How/what will you give in return for some one's contribution?
In return for contributions, I plan on making a piece of artwork for every contributor, no matter where you are I will try my hardest to personalize a piece for you and ship it to you directly, as a thank you from me to you, personally.
  • Why do you need help funding your AFS experience?
Although I am applying for scholarships specifically for AFS, the price of studying abroad is reasonable but still a great amount for a sixteen year old. My parents and family have been so kind to support me in the funds I need after scholarships and fundraising, and I am currently working 3-4 days a week at a local toy store. Keep in mind that I also attend school regularly, and can only work for so long in after school hours.
  • What have you already done, and what are you planning to do, to contribute to your fundraising efforts?
Like I previously stated, I am working and saving every paycheck I receive. I also babysit, and save every penny I earn. I have many ideas for fundraising, and this is one of my first steps. I plan on continuing working up until the day before I leave for Chile, and I do not plan on spending much money from now to then.
  • What is the Sponsor an AFSer program?
